I am a huge fan of the PortaPro, and was basically looking for a "gaming PortaPro" so I decided to give these a shot. While not precisely the same sound, there is a family resemblance and I feel I got what I wanted. There is heft and authority to the sound, but you don't get hit over the head. The treble is detailed enough while not being fatiguing. The bass is solid and well-controlled. Good soundstage and imaging. Also very light weight - I could wear them all day which I can't even say for the PortaPro. In this price range, the build is impressively precise and the design is well thought out. In short, take my money!

Outstanding open back headphone!
Overall
I purchased the GMR AIR solely for music. I own multiple Porta Pros as well as other brands of open back style headphones. I have been using the GMR for a week. Playing through Dragonfly Black connected to an Ipad as well as using a FIIO BT 1 Bluetooth receiver to my iPhone X. I have to say the GMR are very appreciated because they are large ear cups that cover the ear as well as extremely light weight on my head. Two hour listening sessions are not fatiguing to me with this headphone. So I proceeded to use music that I am very familiar with. Beatles Let it Be album. Led Zeppelin four. The Who Who’s Next. Pink a Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon. Using the iPad with the Audioquest Dragonfly black was a match made in heaven. The headphones shine on this type of music. The put you in the recording session. Details on the recording are present. Instrument separation is realistic. I mean I heard guitar parts on the Beatles Across The Universe track that I’ve never heard There is a wah in the right channel in the latter part of the song. And Yokozuna’s can be heard singing chorus in the left channel. Look I’ve listened that track 300 times no joke. Amazing. The overall sound signature is mellow. It doesn’t scream at you. You can EQ or use different HP amps to change it to bright. If that’s your preference. It still has all the details. What I find is as you stay with a headphone and get accustomed to its sound signature, everything falls into line. KOSS GMR IS A GREAT HEADPHONE! Deemed to be a Koss classic.
